AI SEO & GENERATIVE ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

AI SEO that puts your business inside the answer, not on page two.

When your customer asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews or Perplexity, the AI names a few businesses and the search ends. We make sure yours is one of them. AI SEO and generative engine optimization for Indian businesses, built on a real SEO foundation, run by people who do this every day.

Quick answer

AI SEO, also called generative engine optimization or GEO, is the work of getting your business cited inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini, not just ranked in Google's blue links. In India it runs on monthly retainers from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,00,000, built on a strong SEO foundation, and typically shows movement in a few weeks to a few months depending on how competitive your category is.

Your customers stopped scrolling. They ask AI, and the answer never mentions you.

Here is what changed while most Indian businesses were still chasing page-one rankings. Google now shows an AI Overview on a large share of searches, and when one appears, far fewer people click through. Pew Research Center tracked the real search behaviour of about 900 US adults across roughly 69,000 searches and found they clicked a traditional result on 8 percent of searches that showed an AI summary, against 15 percent of searches that did not. People read the answer and move on. The ten blue links you fought for are now below a box that already settled the question.

It gets sharper. You can sit at position three on Google and still be completely invisible, because the AI built its answer from someone else and named two competitors instead of you. Ranking is no longer the same as being found. Being the source the answer quotes is the new page one, and almost nobody in your market is working on it yet.

In India this is moving faster than anywhere. ChatGPT has roughly 7.3 crore daily users here, handed advanced AI for free through Jio and Airtel bundles, so your customer does not need to be a tech enthusiast to ask an assistant instead of Google. A homeowner asks for the best interior designer in Whitefield. A founder asks which gold buyer pays the best rate. The AI answers with names, and if yours is not one of them, the search ended before you knew it started.

The quiet cost is that this is happening to you right now, with no dashboard to show it. You can watch your Google rankings hold steady while the actual traffic and enquiries drain away into answers you were never part of. By the time it shows up in your revenue, your competitors have a year of AI citations behind them and you are starting from zero. The businesses that win the next few years are the ones that start while the niche is still wide open.

The answer box ate the click

When an AI Overview appears, click-through drops hard. Pew's tracking of real searches put it at 8 percent versus 15 percent. Ranking without being cited no longer pays.

🔎

Position three, still invisible

You can rank well on Google and never appear in the AI answer, because the engine quoted a competitor instead. Two different games now.

How AI engines decide which businesses to name.

AI answers are not random. They are built from sources the engine can read, trust and verify. Win those three and you get cited.

The first lever is structure. AI engines lift passages, not whole pages, so content that opens each section with a clear, self-contained answer gets pulled into responses while waffle gets skipped. Clean headings, direct answers, FAQ blocks and structured data make your page easy for a machine to quote. This is the same discipline behind our SEO services, sharpened for a reader that is now a model summarising you in 40 words.

The second lever is authority, and it is where most of the gain hides. The most-quoted work here is the Princeton-led paper on generative engine optimization, and it is worth being straight about it. It points somewhere useful, that citing real sources and adding verifiable specifics helps and that keyword stuffing hurts, but the percentage lifts everyone repeats come from a synthetic test on older models, and the industry quotes them with far more confidence than the paper earns. We use the direction, not the decimal. AI engines have a strong bias toward sources they can verify, so original data, named authors, real numbers and genuine expertise beat marketing adjectives every time.

The third lever is presence, and it surprises people. Ahrefs studied roughly 75,000 brands against millions of AI responses and found that off-site signals, essentially how often your name comes up elsewhere, correlate far more strongly with being named by AI than your own domain metrics or how many pages you publish. Ahrefs are careful to say correlation is not causation, and so are we. ChatGPT and Perplexity lean heavily on Reddit, Quora, review sites and Wikipedia. So being talked about in the right places off your own site matters as much as your own pages, which is why our AI SEO work always covers reviews, listings and genuine community presence, not just on-page changes. We go far deeper on the mechanics in our generative engine optimization guide.

What AI actually says about Bengaluru businesses right now.

Every number in AI search comes from American B2B software companies. We could not find a single study of what these engines answer for Indian local commercial queries, so we ran it ourselves.

Method, stated up front. On 1 July 2026 we ran five commercial queries through Perplexity, logged out, no location shared, one run each. Four were in categories we work in. One was our own category, as a control. We recorded every business the engine named and every source it actually cited. This is one engine, on one day, one run per prompt, and these answers change between runs. It is our snapshot, not a national study. We re-run it quarterly and publish the date.

The question we askedWho the engine namedWhose page it actually used
best gold buyers in BangaloreAbaya Gold Buyers, DGold, HNS Gold, Bhishma Gold, Khushi GoldMixed. Four of the named businesses' own sites, plus JustDial and Sulekha.
best corporate office interior fit out companies in BangaloreNextura, Livspace, DesignCafe, HomeLane, Bonito, Studio Lotus, Morphogenesis, Edifice, SpaceioAlmost entirely one company's own comparison page. That company is named first.
best coworking space in KoramangalaWeWork, 91Springboard, BHIVE, Urban Vault, Indiqube, ClayworksNot one operator's own site. Two third-party aggregators decided the order.
best digital marketing agency in Bangalore (our own category, as control)Growth Hackers Digital, Webenza, Team Pumpkin, Social Beat, Nico DigitalLinkedIn, two competing agencies' own sites, and GoodFirms.
best real estate developers in BangaloreSobha, Prestige, Brigade, Godrej, Puravankara, Sattva and othersNot one developer's own site. Third-party analysis blogs set the ranking.

The finding. In four of the five categories, the businesses being recommended were not the source of the recommendation. Somebody else's page decided who got named.

And in the two cases where a business's own page was the source, that business was named first and described most favourably. A Bengaluru fit-out company published a comparison of the best fit-out companies, and the engine now assembles the answer from it, with them at the top. An agency published about answer and generative engine optimisation, and now owns that slot when someone asks.

Two things you should not miss. LinkedIn was cited as a source in the agency query, so what you post there is already feeding these answers. And we ran our own category as the control, which means we have to report this: Apex Influence was not named. We are publishing that because a page arguing for evidence has no business hiding its own.

Run 1, 1 July 2026. The full prompt list and raw captures are kept so anyone can repeat this.

What it optimises for
  • Citations in AI-generated answers
  • Featured snippets and answer boxes
  • FAQ schema and structured data
  • Clear, direct answers to questions

Goal
Get your content cited as the answer.

We build for both at once: your pages rank in Google, and your business is named when buyers ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Same foundation, two kinds of visibility.

What AI SEO covers when we run it for your business.

Five moving parts, built to work together on top of your existing SEO, not instead of it.

🔍

AI visibility audit

We run your most important buying questions through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews and show you exactly where you stand today, who is being cited instead of you, and why. You get a clear picture of your AI share of voice before we change a thing, so progress is measured, never asserted.

📝

Answer-first content and schema

We restructure your key pages so a machine can extract them: direct answers up top, clean headings, FAQ blocks and the right structured data. Run your site through our free SEO checker and you will see the gaps we close, the ones that decide whether an engine can quote you or skips past you.

🤖

Generative engine and answer optimisation

This is the core work: making your business the source ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews cite when a customer asks. Topical depth, entity signals and a content cluster around your category, so the engines treat you as the authority on the questions that bring you business.

Authority and third-party presence

Because AI cites third-party sources more than your own site, we build the off-site signals that get you quoted: real reviews, accurate listings, honest answers where your buyers already ask questions, and a consistent brand footprint across the web. The places the engine trusts, done the white-hat way.

📊

Technical AI-readiness and tracking

We make sure the AI crawlers can actually reach you (GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended), keep your site fast and clean, add an llms.txt and structured data where they help, and set up tracking so you can watch your AI mentions and brand searches grow month on month.

AI SEO reads differently for every industry.

A gold buyer, a builder, an interior designer and a coworking operator are each answering a different set of questions in AI search. We pair AI SEO with the vertical playbook for your category, so you are cited for the exact questions your buyers ask.

🏦

AI SEO for gold buyers

Sellers now ask AI where to get the best rate and whether a buyer is trustworthy before they ever walk in. We make your counter the one the answer names.

The myth check: what you do not need.

The hype merchants are already selling AI ranking secrets for fat fees. Most of it is nonsense, and Google has said so on the record.

You do not need special AI markup or magic files. Google's own published guidance states plainly that no new markup is required for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and that you should not chop your content into tiny AI chunks. You do not need a separate set of pages written for the machines, which actually risks tripping spam rules. And you do not need an llms.txt file to rank on Google, though it can help other engines, so we ship one anyway as cheap insurance.

The boring truth is that AI SEO rewards the same things good marketing always has: genuine expertise, clear writing, honest proof and a business people trust. The tools changed, the fundamentals did not. We tell you this on day one because it is what separates us from the agencies selling a secret that does not exist. If you want the full reasoning, it is laid out in our guide to getting found in AI search. We run AI SEO for businesses across India and worldwide, including a dedicated program for US companies: our AI SEO agency for the US market.

Can the AI engines even read your site?

Before any of this matters, a machine has to be able to fetch your pages. On Indian SMB hosting this is where most sites quietly fail, and almost nobody checks it. Hand this list to whoever manages your site.

Or just run it. Our free AI Readiness Checker fetches your page as a browser and then as each AI crawler, and shows you exactly where it breaks.

There is one more, and we see it because we do incident response on hacked sites. A compromised site does not only serve malware, it serves injected text, and that injected text becomes what an AI repeats about your business. Cleaning the hack does not automatically clean the description. If your site has ever been hit, check what the engines are still saying. Our malware removal and recovery work exists because of exactly this.

AI-first is not AI-alone.

We are an AI-first agency and AI does an enormous amount of our work, at a speed no team can match. So take this the right way. AI is the most capable executor I have ever worked with, and it does not know when it is wrong.

A junior who is unsure will hesitate and ask a question. AI never hesitates. It produces something confidently incorrect and cannot tell that it has. Hand it your marketing with no expert above it and you have not removed the risk of burning money. You have automated it.

That is not theory on this page. This page used to carry three widely-quoted statistics we could not trace back to a primary source. We cut them. What you are reading has fewer numbers than the earlier version did, and the ones that survived have a name and a sample size attached. Making that call is the job.

The same gap shows up in the website itself. Almost every business builds version one, the brochure, and stops. Very few build version two: real tracking, a funnel that follows up, and an owned organic asset. Without version two you cannot tell whether any of this is working, which is exactly how a paid-only budget lets the cost of winning a customer climb quietly, quarter after quarter.

In a market where doing the work gets cheaper every month, judgment is the last scarce asset. That is what we actually sell.

What we can measure, what we cannot, and what we will not promise.

What we can see

Server logs showing which AI crawlers fetched which pages and how often. Bing Webmaster Tools. Search Console. GA4 with the AI assistants pulled out of Direct wherever that is possible. And lead-level source attribution in your CRM, which is the only thing that actually connects an AI-influenced visit to a booked job. We run this stack on our own site. Installing it on yours is the first deliverable, not an upsell.

What we cannot see

The same question asked twice returns different answers and different citations, so a prompt-tracker number is a reading, not a verdict. Clicks from inside AI apps often arrive with no referrer at all and get filed as Direct, so your analytics under-counts by design. And no tool can tell you what an assistant said to a buyer in Whitefield last Tuesday. We do not sell a prompt-tracking dashboard as a KPI, because it is not one.

What we will not promise

We will not promise you a citation, and we will not promise visibility across every engine. The engines cite largely different sources, so uniform visibility is not a thing that exists to be sold. Anyone promising it is either guessing or counting on you not to check.

And if your listings are inconsistent, you have no tracking, or your category shows almost no AI referral traffic yet, we will tell you to fix those first and not spend here. Sequencing beats urgency.

What AI SEO costs.

AI SEO is not a separate bolt-on for most businesses. It is a sharper version of the SEO and content work you should already be funding, plus a serious push on authority and third-party presence. Engagements start at Rs 25,000 a month, most businesses run on Growth at Rs 50,000, and full tier detail sits on the SEO services page.

Questions business owners ask us about AI SEO.

Straight answers, no jargon.

What is AI SEO?
+
AI SEO is the work of getting your business cited inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini, instead of only ranking in Google's list of links. It is also called generative engine optimization, or GEO. The goal shifts from "rank on page one" to "be the source the answer names".
Is AI SEO the same as GEO or AEO?
+
They overlap. AI SEO is the broad term. GEO, generative engine optimization, is getting cited inside AI-generated answers. AEO, answer engine optimization, is the slice focused on formatting content to be pulled as a direct answer. In practice we run all three together, because they rely on the same foundation of clear, trustworthy, well-structured content.
How is AI SEO different from traditional SEO?
+
Traditional SEO earns you a ranking in a list of links. AI SEO earns you a citation inside the answer an AI writes on top of that list. They share the same foundation, but AI SEO adds extractable answers, cited data and third-party mentions so engines pick you as the source. The fastest AI results come to businesses that already have solid SEO.
Does my business really need AI SEO in 2026?
+
If your customers ask questions before they buy, yes. Google shows an AI answer on close to half of searches, and ChatGPT has about 7.3 crore daily users in India. If those answers never name you, you are missing the exact moment a buyer decides. The niche is still wide open, which is precisely why starting now is worth it.
Can you get my business cited in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?
+
That is the work. We make your content extractable, build your authority with real data and named expertise, and earn the third-party mentions these engines trust. We cannot promise a specific placement on a specific date, because no honest agency can control an AI engine. What we can do is the work that consistently earns citations, and measure it so you see the movement.
How long does AI SEO take to work?
+
It depends on your category and how strong your site already is. Clear, well-sourced pages can start appearing in AI answers within a few weeks to a few months, while competitive categories take longer. Anyone promising a fixed date is guessing. We record where you stand before we start, so the change is measured rather than claimed.
Do I need an llms.txt file or special schema for AI SEO?
+
Not for Google, which states plainly that no special files or markup are required for AI Overviews. An llms.txt file and FAQ schema do help other engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity read you, so we add them as cheap insurance. But useful, well-structured content is the real driver, not a magic file, and anyone selling it as the secret is overcharging for a seatbelt.
How much does AI SEO cost in India?
+
AI SEO in India runs on monthly retainers from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,00,000. For most businesses it is folded into an existing SEO retainer rather than bought separately, since it builds on the same foundation. Foundation starts at Rs 25,000 a month, most run on Growth at Rs 50,000, and billing is a clear monthly rate agreed before we begin.
Do I need to keep doing traditional SEO as well?
+
Yes. AI SEO sits on top of SEO, it does not replace it. An AI engine cannot cite a page it never crawled or trusted, so cutting your SEO to fund AI work makes no sense. The right move is to keep the foundation strong and layer AI SEO on top, so the same page wins the search result and the answer box.
