Why a free scan is a first read, not the full picture
A public scanner can only see what your website shows the public. Most serious infections do not sit there. They hide in your database, on pages other than the homepage, in core or plugin files, or in a backdoor that only activates for Google's crawler. That is why a site can pass a quick scan and still be infected, and why Google sometimes flags a site that looks fine to you.
To find out what is actually on the server, a person has to read your files, your database and your logs. We do that by hand, with your permission and your access. If you suspect a problem, or you have a "this site may be hacked" warning from Google, contact us for a deeper check.

What does the malware scan check for?
The surface check reads your homepage for injected spam keywords, Japanese or foreign SEO spam, scrambled or encoded scripts, hidden iframes, scripts from unfamiliar domains, redirects to other sites, open defacement, security headers as set or not set, and software versions the page publishes. It then reads public records: what a Googlebot-style request receives compared with a visitor, your robots.txt and sitemap, your certificate expiry, your domain renewal date and transfer lock, and your SPF and DMARC email records. A deeper check reads what a public scan cannot: your files, database and server.
What does surface-level mean?
Surface-level means what anyone can see by opening your website, the way a visitor or Google would. It does not open your files, database or hosting. This free scan can only show surface-level signs of scams and malware. It reads what your website shows the public: your homepage as a visitor sees it, your public DNS and domain records, and your certificate. It cannot see your files, database, inner pages or server. Can a scan detect every hack?
No surface scan can. Many infections sit in the database, on pages other than the homepage, or in server files that a public request never sees. The surface check is a fast first read. A deeper check by a person is how an owner finds out what is actually on the server.
