Scammed in the UK: where to report it

If you are in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and think you have been cheated, report it to Report Fraud and tell your bank now. In Scotland, report via 101.

Still talking to them? Stop replying. Do not send more money, codes or passwords. If anyone is in danger, call 999.

What to do in the first hour

  1. Stop paying. Do not send more money or codes.
  2. Call your bank using the number on your card or in their official app, and tell them it is fraud.
  3. Report to Report Fraud online or on 0300 123 2040.
  4. Forward scam texts to 7726. The National Cyber Security Centre says mobile networks let you report suspicious texts for free by forwarding them to 7726.
  5. Keep evidence. Save messages, receipts and screenshots.

If someone offers to get your money back for a fee

We cannot recover money, and we do not charge anyone. A person who contacts you offering to get lost money back, especially for an advance fee, is a common second step in scams. Report that person too.
