Scammed in Australia: where to report it
If you are in Australia and think you have been cheated, tell your bank first, then report to Scamwatch and, for cybercrime, to ReportCyber.
Still talking to them? Stop replying. Do not send more money, codes or passwords. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 000.
Source: scamwatch.gov.au (report a scam) and cyber.gov.au (ReportCyber, which lists the Australian Cyber Security Hotline 1300 CYBER1, 1300 292 371). Checked 3 October 2026.
What to do in the first hour
- Stop paying. Do not send more money or codes.
- Call your bank using the number on your card or in their official app.
- Report to Scamwatch using the official form.
- Report cybercrime at ReportCyber. The page describes it as a national policing initiative. The hotline on that page is 1300 CYBER1 (1300 292 371).
- Keep evidence. Save messages, receipts and screenshots.
If someone offers to get your money back for a fee
We cannot recover money, and we do not charge anyone. A person who contacts you offering to get lost money back, especially for an advance fee, is a common second step in scams. Report that person too.
