Quick Answer: HUID (Hallmark Unique ID) is a 6-character alphanumeric code laser-engraved on every BIS-hallmarked gold piece. It's linked to BIS database. As a jeweller, HUID is mandatory on every piece you sell. As a buyer, HUID is your guarantee of purity.

HUID was mandated by BIS from June 16, 2021. Every gold jewellery piece above a certain weight threshold must have HUID before being sold. Jewellers register on BIS portal, send pieces to licensed Assaying & Hallmarking (A&H) centres, and each piece gets a unique HUID. This eliminates fake hallmarking.

Get GJSCI or state Jewellers Association membership
Send jewellery to nearest BIS-licensed A&H centre
A&H centre tests purity and laser-engraves HUID
Upload HUID details to BIS portal (linked to your registration)
